ORIGINAL, ANTIQUE, 15 Century CABACETE HELMET - This is a helmet of a type that was used in many countries in southern Europe, England and Colonial America from 1480-1650. Identical helmets have been excavated at Jamestown Virginia. It is 9” high. The brim has a maker’s or arsenal mark which identifies it as Italian. The mark is of the type used by the Barberini family which supplied the arsenal of the Pope about 1590. The opposite end of the brim has a small hole used to hang the helmet in an arsenal or guard house when not in use, reducing the chance of rusting. It is very heavy and would have been part of a suit of armor of matching quality and finish. - Item#arm-51 ** - (Sold) -
