AMES" - "SPRINGFIELD" below the National Eagle emblem on one side, and  "UNITED STATES" - "1841" - "W.S." on the other - Brass Guard Marked on one side of Blade: "W.S." (William Smith, civilian inspector.  Found on M1832 Foot Artillery swords, dated 1839-1841), ~ and ~ "ORD." & "M.P.L." (Mason P. Lomax, Maj.
